One minute we are anchored peacefully and the next we awaken to find ourselves 20 ft from rocks. Saving us from crashing up on the rock ledge was our 15lb dinghy anchor! And it was out only because Weather Channel app told us Light and Variable at night… which turned out to be darn wrong.
Otherwise, Richmond Island was lovely and fun to explore.
Off the coast of New Hampshire -which isn’t much coastline at all, about five miles south of Isles of Shoals we saw a boat. Zooming. Ferry? No, a whale watching boat and then it stopped about one mile from us. For an hour we hung out watching, and listening to whale songs.
I was alternately afraid to be close (they didn’t allow that) and worried we’d be too far away for a decent photo. Russ had patience, not me so much, but these are the two best pics. Humpback? not sure yet. Our first ever whale sightings.
